Saint John, NB (July 11, 2019) – The heart of Uptown Saint John will come alive once again this year on Saturday, July 20 for the third-annual Moonlight Bazaar – scheduled to mark the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
The annual Civilized event will see Canterbury Street and Grannan Lane closed to traffic. Under a giant, suspended moon, revelers will be treated to even more at this year’s lively, age-gated festival, including:
- Telescopic viewings of the night sky by Astronomy by the Bay
- Moosehead Breweries’ new, custom-built shipping container bar
- Clips from the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing
- The official unveiling of a permanent art installation, sponsored by Commercial Properties Limited and Stewart McKelvey, by world-renowned artist Dodo Ose. The new mural will be on the retaining wall at the corner of Canterbury and Princess streets.
“Moonlight Bazaar is the party of the summer,” says Derek Riedle, Publisher of Civilized. “All we’ve done is add a moon – it’s because of the beautiful streetscape and the wonderful community support that Saint John is the perfect place to host this event.”
In addition to mystical practitioners like fortune tellers, reiki healers and tarot card readers, there will be international cuisine from places like India, Thailand, Haiti and Syria; an oyster bar with live shucking; a bar serving Stoli and Lindeman’s products; fire dancing; and lots of surprises. Also new this year is Moonlight Bazaar merchandise, including stickers and t-shirts in various original designs.
The footprint of the event has been expanded to improve site flow, as event creators expect even more attendees this year. The event is free, and open to those 19 years of age and older.
Moonlight Bazaar photos and video can be found on the event’s Facebook page.
