Fans Are Throwing A Tantrum Over Willie Nelson’s Support of Democrat Beto O’Rourke

Many Willie Nelson fans are seeing red today over the fact that the 85-year-old singer is voting blue.

It was recently announced that the country singer would playing his first ever free public concert on behalf of a politician when he performs his headlining set at a rally for Democratic Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke later this month.

Judging by the comments posted to Nelson’s Facebook page (including several on posts totally unrelated to O’Rourke), his more conservative fans are not happy about the overt political endorsement.

Since his rise in popularity in the late 60’s, Willie has always bridged the gap between his southern roots and his hippie followers. But in these more fractious times, it seems many of his fans see this endorsement as a clear line drawn in the sand, alienating his conservative base.

Oh well. If they don’t want him, we’ll take him.

Lots of people enjoy unwinding with a joint after a hard day's work, but for Perry Farrell, getting high is just another part of his job as a rock singer. The frontman of the alternative rock group Jane's Addiction likens the role of the musician to a shaman, whose job is to explore altered states of consciousness. "When you're going out there [onstage] as a shaman - as a witch doctor, you need to step into the fifth dimension," Farrell told Pitchfork in the latest edition of their 'Over/Under' series.
