In August 2002, the unimaginable happened. Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr. - better known as Snoop Dogg - announced he was quitting weed. At the time, he had just been named High Times' Stoner of the Year for 2002. But he he did a 180 and shocked the world of hip hop by cutting greens from his diet.
At the time, "The Doggfather" said:
Drugs cloud your vision. I was having fun when I was getting high. Don't regret none of the times I was on it. That was me, Snoop Dogg: Stoner of the Year. I'm 30 years old now. Three kids. A wife. A mom. Brothers. Artists. Family. Friends. They all need me. They depend on me. I said 'Let me stop smoking dope so I can get a better vision of myself, see who I am and what I mean to the world. What I mean to my kids and what I mean to life in general.'
Snoop's hash hiatus wouldn't last. But he did experiment with abstinence again in 2005 when he began coaching youth football. He opened up about that experience on the premiere episode of "Kocktails with Khloé" Jan. 20.
I went to practice high one day and one of the kids said, 'Coach, you smell like my mama's boyfriend,' " Snoop told Kardashian et al. "And I had to check myself. I stopped smoking from that day for 180 days straight. And it made me a better coach, a better person, and I stopped smoking when I was coaching football. So every year when I coach football around the kids, I don't smoke, so that's three months out of the year that I do that.
