UK Politician Encourages People to Illegally Use Medical Marijuana Because ‘The Law Is An Ass'

The United Kingdom is set to debate whether or not to legalize medical marijuana later this week. But one politician says regardless of how the debate outcome, people should use marijuana no matter what.

Alfie Dingley is a six-year-old boy in the UK whose family appealed to the country's government to allow him to use cannabis to help treat his condition that causes severe seizures. However, the government (which is controlled by the Conservative party) rejected the request, which infuriated politicians in all parties. The decision led to one politician even encouraging the family to break the law.

“I would urge them to break the law, because the law in this case is an ass,” said MP Paul Flynn.

Flynn is one of the politicians working on drafting a bill that would allow for medical marijuana in the United Kingdom

Dingley's story seems to have stoked a fire in UK politicians on the issue. Even several members of the Conservative party are backing legislation to legalize medical marijuana. They're even calling for a "free vote," which would allow members of Parliament to vote on the bill without pressure from party leaders.

Well when the law is an ass, you should probably fix it.

A non-profit group of over 150 current and former athletes is calling for marijuana to be removed form the World Anti-Doping Agency's prohibited substances list. Medical marijuana legalization is spreading across the US, but most pro-athletes are still prevented from accessing it. That's because most major sports leagues follow drug guidelines set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which bans athletes from using cannabis even outside of competition.
