UC San Diego Will Pay You To Get High And Try To Drive

Our understanding of how cannabis consumption affects driving skills is still limited. So to figure out how long cannabis consumers have to wait before getting behind the wheel, the University of California, San Diego will pay you to get high and drive.

Road safety has been one of the leading concerns surrounding cannabis legalization. Obviously there need to be regulations around driving while under the influence of cannabis, but researchers haven't figured out how much is too much, or how long someone should wait before sitting in the driver's seat. These are some of the questions UC San Diego hopes to address in their new study.

"If you smoked this morning, are you impaired throughout the day? Are you impaired for a couple of hours? Or are you not impaired? We're trying to answer that," Tom Marcotte - Co-Director of UC San Diego's Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research (CMCR) - told 10 News.

The CMCR has teamed up with the California Highway Patrol to test how well people perform in a driving simulation after consuming various amounts of THC. Participants will also have to perform various memory and motor control tests as well as take body fluid testing in the study.

So, if you've ever wanted to get paid to smoke cannabis, this might be your best opportunity as the researchers are still looking for people to participate in the study.

Cannabis for Beginners - What is a dispensary?

Latest.

Right now, cannabis can only be legally purchased through dispensaries or online retailers, but that could change if a group representing corner stores across America gets its way. The lobbying arm of the National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) is preparing to fight for the ability of their members to sell weed once it becomes federally legal in America. NACS doesn't have support for federal cannabis policy reform on their official agenda, but that doesn't mean they don't want a piece of the pie if the industry is legalized nationwide.
