Everyone needs a little downtime now and then, but President Donald Trump has taken chillaxing to the extreme by blowing millions on taxpayer dollars on his personal leisure. Trump has spent half of his weekends since becoming president at Mar-A-Lago - his luxury estate in Palm Beach, Florida - since becoming president, according to the website istrumpatmaralago.org.
Those trips have cost taxpayers over $20 million according to the site. That's enough money to offer approximately 9,000 Americans access to Meals on Wheels - which saw its funding slashed in Trump's budget proposal. You know, because feeding the old and infirm is frivolous according to the White House.
"We can't spend money on programs just because they sound good," White House Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney told reporters last March. "We're not going to spend money on programs that cannot show that they actually deliver the promises that we've made to people."
But the Trump administration has no problem blowing that money on breaking the president's promises. While running for office in 2016, Trump vowed not to spend his downtime playing golf, which President Barack Obama did on occasion. But since becoming commander-in-chief, Trump's practically become an orange lawn gnome on the green at the Mar-a-Lago golf course.
But maybe we can make an Honest Abe out of The Donald by keeping tabs on his whereabouts -- thanks to istrumpatmaralago.org.
