Tom Hanks Explains Why He Loves Singing 'O Canada' in the Shower

Actor Tom Hanks isn't Canadian, but he probably sings Canada's national anthem more than most Canucks do. That's because 'O Canada' is one of only two ditties that he can sing well, especially in the shower, which is one of the few places where he feels comfortable singing.

"The shower is an interesting place because the echo is perfect," Hanks told BBC Radio 1 recently while promoting 'Toy Story 4.' "And the song that is perfect in my shower, in my register is either one of two things: Dean Martin's 'Everybody Loves Somebody Sometimes' or the national anthem of Canada."

And he even gave his interviewers a sampling of both songs. Check it out in the clip below to celebrate Canada Day.

When former Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of Botham Jean on October 3, 2019, the public reaction was a combination of relief and exasperation. The case starkly reflects the flaws in the current landscape of American criminal justice: Guyger, who is white, killed Jean, a 26-year-old black man, while he was relaxing after work in his living room. Guyger invoked Texas’ "Stand Your Ground" law, claiming she was justifiably scared for her life when she wandered into his unlocked home after work, mistaking it for hers in the same apartment complex.
