This is What Happens When You Try to Bribe a Cop With Weed

You probably already know where this is going.

Michael Henderson, a 28-year-old resident of Florida, was recently pulled over for driving too close to a motorhome during a rain storm. As soon as he rolled down the window to speak to an officer from the Indian River County Sheriff's Office, the deputy said he could smell "burnt marijuana." At first, Henderson tried to blame the odor on his business partner, who was a registered medical marijuana patient in Florida

But his 'extremely nervous' demeanor made the deputy suspicious, so he asked if there were any illegal substances in the car. That's when Henderson admitted to having four pounds of marijuana stowed in the trunk. Getting caught with that much cannabis in Florida could land you in prison for up to five years. On top of that, you can get slapped with a fine of up to $5,000.

Knowing that things weren't looking good, Henderson offered the officer two pounds of the marijuana if he would let him off scot-free. When the deputy refused, Henderson upped the offer to all four pounds in exchange for his freedom. But the only made matters worse.

Henderson still got arrested, and now, on top of his marijuana possession charge, he is also facing a charges for bribery of a public servant. That's a charge that carries a maximum punishment of 15 years in prison and a fine of $10,000.

So if you get caught with weed, don't try to bribe the arresting officer with it, unless you want to barter for a longer stay in prison.
