Launching a business in the cannabis industry is exciting and can be a rewarding experience. But it's also expensive, and that's where the Million Dollar Pitch event comes in.
One of Canada's leading cannabis producers, Canopy Growth, has teamed up with cannabis investment firm Canopy Rivers to host what they're calling the Million Dollar Pitch Day. The event gives entrepreneurs who hold micro-licenses under Canada's Cannabis Act to make a pitch for a million dollars to help get their business moving. With industry-wide sales projected to hit $10 billion this year (and climb much higher in subsequent years) the cannabis industry is becoming an recitative place for budding business people.
The event will be taking place at the International Cannabis Business Conference in Vancouver at the end of June. Those hoping to secure the $1,000,000 in seed capital will have to be invited to the event through a successful application, and will pitch their business - Dragon's Den style - to a panel of investors that includes Canopy Growth’s Hillary Black, Canopy Rivers' Olivier Dufourmantelle, renowned cannabis attorney Kirk Tousaw, and Matt Beren, owner of the House of the Great Gardener seed company. Of course, the winner will get more than some startup cash - they will also access "an industry-leading ecosystem, and world-class expertise" from the investors.
Interested entrepreneurs can apply here for the chance to be invited to the event, but you better be quick: the application process closes tonight, June 7.
