Since the 2016 presidential election, more than 1,400 companies have pulled their advertisements from the right-wing media website, Breitbart News. The ad removals are a direct result of the social media campaign led by the anonymous Twitter page the Sleeping Giants (@slpng_giants), “an organization dedicated to stopping racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic and anti-Semitic news sites by stopping their ad dollars.” The group is urging Twitter users to notify companies of their ad placements because some companies don't actually even know where their ads are placed, so this came as a surprise to some.
