The Election Was Big On Facebook Live This Year, But Chewbacca Mom Reigned Supreme

Where were you the first time you laughed along with Chewbacca Mom?

This will inevitably be the question on everyone’s lips today, as it has been revealed that the Facebook Live video filmed by Candace Payne, a.k.a “Chewbacca Mom”, was the most viewed live broadcast on the social media giant this year.

The four-minute video, wherein Payne laughs uncontrollably while sporting a talking Chewbacca mask in her car, earned more than 164 million views since its first broadcast on May 20.

Facebook’s annual Year in Review revealed that Chewbacca Mom won the top slot over a live video wherein musician Ted Yoder played a hammered dulcimer, along with several live streams concerning the US presidential election and a video of people in Dallas lining up to hug police officers.

“2016 was a difficult year for a lot of people around the world,” wrote Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg in a retrospective video of some of the year’s top moments on Facebook.

“But what gives me hope is that even our darkest moments were a little brighter because of the connections we shared with each other.”

The fight to legalize cannabis nationwide should begin by helping veterans get access to medical marijuana, according to Massachusetts Representative - and 2020 presidential candidate - Seth Moulton (D). Right now, vets can't use medical marijuana without the risk of losing their Veteran's Affairs benefits, even if they live in a state that has legalized medicinal cannabis. In fact, so much as mentioning cannabis use to their doctor is enough for a vet to get their benefits stripped.
