Snapchat is introducing a new way of viewing social media with its most recent update. Social media has always combined photos and posts from friends and family with content from creators, publishers, and influencers, which has successfully encouraged communication and expression to this point, but it has also produced content in which friends feel they have to perform for each other rather than just express themselves. To make the experience more personal and less of a performance, Snapchat is now separating the social and media by reorganizing the app around your friend relationships.
The new version of Snapchat will continue to open to the camera, but now your photos can be shared with either your friends or the community. The left side of the Snapchat camera now includes all Chats and Stories from friends, which are organized based on the way you communicate with them. The new Snapchat is more personal with this dynamic Friends page, which will now be listed in the order that you want to talk to friends, so you no longer have to scroll through all your Chats. The new Discover page is to the right of the camera, which includes Stories from publishers, creators, and the Snapchat community, re-organized with your subscriptions first, followed by Stories you might be interested in viewing. Snapchat hopes to build a better way to communicate with friends and creators on social media with all of these new updates.
