Street Fighter II Fights Its Way Into The Video Game Hall Of Fame

In February 1991, Street Fighter II was released as an arcade game, and now more than 25 years later, the game is a new inductee in the 2017 Video Game Hall of Fame. The game quickly became a huge success, selling more than 60,000 units worldwide. This success is still seen in video games today because Street Fighter serves as the basis for modern fighting games. Before the game released, high scores were used to determine the best players, but Street Fighter allowed players to compete against each other one-on-one. The longest-running fighting game tournament, Evolution Championship Series, will be held from July 14-16, where the largest tournament will be Street Fighter V.
