Star Wars: The Strains

Star Wars has been a well-loved franchise in the cannabis community ever since the first movie debuted in 1977, and over the years many characters have inspired the names of new marijuana strains. Here we present eight strains with monikers inspired by the Star Wars world.

1. Skywalker

The namesake strain of Luke Skywalker is a balanced, indica-dominant hybrid bred from Blueberry and Mazar. The pungent flowers smell and taste of earth and sweet fruit, and their mellow effects help patients relax and manage pain while maintaining their focus.

2. Yoda OG

This indica-dominant strain descends from OG Kush, and its chunky flowers have an earthy scent like citrus and wood. Yoda OG induces a stress-relieving euphoria as well as strong, long-lasting sedative effects on both body and mind.

3. OG 1 Kenobi

Named after Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi, this indica-dominant kush is known for its high levels of THC. OG 1 Kenobi produces colorful, sticky flowers that have a peppery taste and induce energetic cerebral stimulations.

4. C3PO

This sativa-dominant hybrid has only trace amounts of THC and instills relaxing physical effects. The flowers of C3PO have a golden hue and smell of fresh earth, lemon, and pine.

5. Death Star

Created from a blend of Sensi Star and Sour Diesel, Death Star is an indica-dominant strain known for its high levels of THC. The flowers are pungent with a matching smell and taste of skunk, earth, and diesel, and their effects range to include cerebral euphoria, stress relief, and deep, restful sleep.

6. Darth Vader OG

This cross between Purple Kush and Skywalker OG produces dark purple flowers that emit a sweet aroma of fresh earth and grapes. A potent indica, Darth Vader OG exhibits soothing sedative physical effects as well as a boost in creativity.

7. Ewok

The hybrid strain named after the creatures of Endor instills an energetic sense of creative euphoria, curiosity, relieved stress, and uplifted spirits before a full-body relaxation. Ewok was bred from Tahoe Alien and Albert Walker, and the fuzzy little flowers smell of earth, woodlands, and citrus.

8. Master Jedi

The force of sedation is strong in this strain, a potent indica bred from Master Kush and Skywalker. Master Jedi has a high THC content that induces relaxation over body and mind.

Before Nikki Furrer was a cannabis writer and professional, she had another dream job: owning an independent bookstore. While she says her business venture as a bookseller was ultimately untenable, it did open her eyes to how much she enjoys “matching the reader to the exact book they’re craving.” This zest for matchmaking is evident in her book 'A Woman’s Guide to Cannabis.' As the title suggests, 'A Woman’s Guide to Cannabis' is for women who are curious about cannabis. A more appropriate title, however, might have been a 'A Beginner’s Guide to Cannabis.' Though Furrer touches on applications for the plant that are specific to women—relief of menstrual pain or beauty (though her belief that cannabis is a beauty product because it makes you appear more well-rested seems relevant to both men and women—much of the information in the book is relevant to anyone who is totally inexperienced with cannabis, apprehensive about trying it and needs a run down of the basics.
