Snoop Dogg Recalls Swapping Out Matthew McConaughey’s Prop Weed for the Real Deal

If you're sharing a set with Snoop Dogg, make sure you're prepared for some method acting.

Snoop Dogg and Matthew McConaughey appeared on Jimmy Kimmel on Wednesday to promote their new movie 'The Beach Bum'.

In the film, McConaughey plays Moondog, a perpetually drunk and stoned poet living in Florida, while Snoop plays Lingerie, a character loosely based on himself.

The pair recalled their first time working together on the film. In the scene, the two of them were supposed to share a joint. As is typical on a film set, the prop department made up some fake, oregano-based weed for them smoke in the scene.

"It’s about an eight-minute take. It’s a long take if you’re passing a joint back and forth and you’re smoking hardcore," said McConaughey. "Right after the scene, I just feel like, ‘I’m not sure that was a prop,’” said McConaughey. "I look over and Snoop goes, ‘yo Moondog, that wasn’t prop weed—that’s Snoop weed."

He added that it was just the first take of the night, and they had much more work to do, although McConaughy is doubtful that much got done, considering he remembers none of it.

"You rapped for 13 hours straight," Snoop added, laughing.
