Shock radio sensation Howard Stern gave up smoking marijuana long ago because it makes him paranoid. But he's still contributed a lot to cannabis culture through interviews on The Howard Stern Show. To celebrate his 62nd birthday today, we've put together a look back at some of his best cannabis-related interviews:
1. Stern supports legalization
He doesn't use it, but Stern voiced support for legalization back in April 2012, saying it would help cut down on crime. But he also saw a lot of entertainment value to marketers pitching legal pot to specific demographics, much like Virginia Slim cigarettes targeted female smokers. Check out Stern's pitch for "Marijuana Lite" joints.
2. Neil Young smokes once in a blue--er, harvest moon
"I do it every once in a while," Neil Young told Stern on Oct. 10, 2014. "Just a tiny bit."
When Stern told the rock legend that he gave up smoking because it made him paranoid, Young offered his personal remedy: "Try black pepper balls if you get paranoid. Just chew two or three pieces. I just found this out myself. Try it."
3. Jerry Springer pulls a Bill Clinton
The infamous talk-show host says he tried to try marijuana once at a party, but like the 42nd president, he didn't inhale:
4. Seth Rogen dishes on his rolling skills
With little prompting, outspoken pot smoker Seth Rogen opened up about his cannabis craftsmanship and weed routines. The 2013 interview also included Rogen's must-watch take on the "gateway drug" theory (starts around 2:55 on the video).
5. Joseph-Gordon Levitt gets creative with cannabis
6. Alex Trebek once overdid it on edibles
The longtime Jeopardy host stopped by the show in November of 2015. During a chat about his old partying days, Trebek said he once accidentally scarfed four or five hash brownies at a party.
7. Whoopi Goldberg talks about vaping
In November of 2015, Whoopi Goldberg met up with Stern to talk about her use of medicinal cannabis for glaucoma. She also mentioned her upcoming line of medical marijuana topicals.
