It’s a sunny day on “Sesame Street” because the show just introduced a new neighbor, Julia. She has been on the show’s digital storybook series since 2015, so come April, Julia will make her TV debut as the show’s first autistic character. Creators hope that this new character will help kids better understand how to play with their autistic playmates while also simply just improving representation. Now, children with autism will have a Muppet they can identify with, even though every case of autism is different.
