One of the most exciting elements of cannabis legalization are the women-led companies that are developing infused products for women’s bodies. From Whoopi & Maya’s PMS-treating balms and bath salts in California to 48 North’s big plans for beauty products and topicals in Canada, entrepreneurs are creating weed-infused products for women, by women. And they’re pretty damn good.
Take Bast’s Silk cannabis-infused personal lubricant, “created by three women who love having intense orgasms,” according to the copy on Toronto retailer Hot Box’s site. “It works by activating the receptors in your body’s endocannabinoid system, intensifying the physical (and sometimes emotional) feelings that accompany sex.”
Albeit a few concerns about post-coital sob sessions, I was compelled to try it.
Let’s start with the basics. This is an infused personal lubricant — with 20 milligrams of THC and 40 milligrams of CBD in a 15 milliliter container — that is compatible with condoms. Every cannabis lube I’ve come across so far isn’t, which really limits your safe options. So it’s already head and shoulders above the competition.
Secondly, the makers of this particular lubricant advise to apply it 30 to 60 minutes before getting down, because it needs some time to activate the endocannabinoid system. That could be little awkward depending on who you’re with or where you are, but not impossible, right? Especially when you will likely also start feeling slightly tingly or at least aroused within this timeframe. (And if it's not awkward at first, it could simply be really fun.)
I didn’t get the tingles like I’d hoped, but for those of you with higher tolerances to these types of products, I suggest smoking a bowl or something alongside the topical — for whatever reason, when I combine CBD-heavy topicals with smoked THC, I feel more of that relaxing body buzz.
You won’t get high, and not only are the infusions an added bonus, it’s also a really good lube! I don’t know if that was thanks to the CBD isolate and THC distillate, but my favourite part about this product compared to other water-based lubricants is that you don’t need to repeatedly re-apply it (but there’s no harm in using more if you want to).
And while I’ll spare you the details of my own experience with Bast’s cannabis-infused lubricant, I definitely won’t discourage you from pursuing a next-level orgasm of your very own. Surely that’s worth $45.
