Remembering Prince A Year After His Death

Exactly one year ago on April 21, 2016, Prince died and pop music lost an icon. While fans pay tribute to him around the world, we remember and celebrate Prince’s life by revealing some music written by the late and great artist that you may not have known is his work. In 1986, Prince wrote The Bangles’ famous “Manic Monday” under the the pen name Christopher. He also co-wrote “Stand Back” with Stevie Nicks who credits his song “Little Red Corvette” as its inspiration. Alicia Keys sang “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore”, which he wrote and then sang on his album “1999”. Whether it be his own music or other artists’, Prince made a mark on the music industry.

After a battery of tests and misdiagnoses, I was finally diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease twelve years ago, and thus began a long battle with trial-and-error medical treatments. I changed my diet several times, even though my doctors didn’t seem confident it would change much (it didn’t), went to physical therapy for pain-related issues, and took so many different pharmaceuticals I can’t even begin to recall each and every one. My days were foggy due to side effects from pharmaceuticals, such as steroids, that made me feel worse than I did before I even took them.
