Listing 'Reading' On Your Dating Profile Ups Your Chances Of Getting Noticed

There’s nothing sexier than a bookworm.

This was the takeaway from a recent survey by dating site eHarmony, which found that listing ‘reading’ as a hobby on your dating profile will seriously up your chances of getting noticed.

In a study of its user base, eHarmony researchers found that men who emphasize their love of reading receive 19 percent more messages than those who don’t list the activity on their profile. Book-loving women, on the other hand, receive three percent more messages.

The researchers also wrote that book-lovers are found to be “more intellectually curious than most and find it easier to form open and trusting relationships with others.”

What kinds of books users listed also influenced their online dating success, the results showed. For example, male users who mentioned Richard Branson’s 'Screw It, Let’s Do It' and 'Like a Virgin,' received 74 percent more attention than those who don’t.

'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' (36 percent), '1984' (21 percent) and 'The Da Vinci Code' (5 percent) followed.

For women, listing 'The Hunger Games' (44 percent), 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo' (31 percent) and 'A Game of Thrones' (30 percent) garnered the most attention from fellow users.

Some books aren’t so sexy, it seems. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the data found that listing 'Fifty Shades of Grey' sees women getting 16 percent fewer messages, while men who list the Harry Potter series lose up to 55 percent.

Of course, if you're relying solely on listing a hobby you may or may not be all that into just to get a date, you may also want to consider investing in a copy of 'Dating for Dummies'.
