Porsche is world-renowned for using only the greatest materials to build their cars--the most powerful engines, the most durable metals and...the finest hemp?
Porsche's 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is the first race car to ever feature bodywork comprised of natural fiber materials. Using flax and hemp fibers in its body panels, the organic mix is reported to be pretty similar to carbon fiber. The new car is said to be both faster and lighter that Porsche’s previous model.
For those of you whose minds immediately turned to the fiberweed van from ‘Up in Smoke,’ no, this doesn’t mean Porsche has created the world’s first smokable car. Instead, it is just another exciting example of what can be done with industrialized hemp.
Still, don’t expect to be running errands in a new hemp car just yet, though. The current model is track-only and is therefore not homologated for road use.
