Pet Owners Sacrifice a Lot for Their Furry Friends, According to New Survey

When people decide to have children they know they're going to end up sacrificing huge parts of their personal lives to raise their family. But it turns out simply being a pet owner does the same thing.

A study of 2,000 pet owners in America found that people with cats or dogs end up sacrificing huge parts of their personal lives in order to take care of them. For instance, 49 percent of pet owners say they've never left the country since they began caring for their furry friend. And 33 percent say they also purposely alter their travel plans in order to accommodate their pet. 68 percent feel "especially guilty" when they travel without their pet, and 87 percent say they worry about them when they do travel.

Perhaps the most interesting stat is 23 percent of pet owners only take one vacation every few years, and some even less than that.

It's not just traveling either that pet owners avoid. The survey also showed many owners avoid social events in order to spend time with their pets. They estimated that the average pet owners misses out on 30 social events a year in order to be with their pet.

The survey also showed how much people cared about their pets. 84 percent of them said they love and care for their pet just as much as any other member of their family, and 82 percent feel utter happiness when they spend time with their pets.

Those numbers would be understandable if it was a dog. But come on, people! Cats don't care about you! They're happy to just sleep the day away with or without you.
