Numbers Show Big Sales Boost From Colorado's Tax Holiday

The Sept. 16 tax holiday on recreational marijuana in Colorado made headlines the world over. And now, the Marijuana Business Daily has some numbers on the business impact.

According to columnist Becky Olson, the three cannabis retailers surveyed experienced an 86 percent increase in daily customers and a 128 percent uptick in sales. But the blip wasn't anything compared with the surge on 420, Olson writes, which drew people from all over the world. Writes Olson:

Though this was a one-time circumstance due to a quirk in Colorado's constitution, the outcome highlights the importance of cannabis businesses being close to the pulse of their markets and always on the lookout for opportunities to build brand recognition, drive sales and save money.

'South Park' is well known for satirizing pretty much everything happening in current pop culture, and the cannabis industry is no exception. Last week, the popular adult cartoon released a satirical ad for their fictional cannabis brand, Tegridy Farms. The mock brand was originally introduced in a 'South Park' episode that aired last October on the same day that Canada moved to legalize recreational cannabis nationwide. The new Tegridy Farms ad takes shots at the current landscape of the cannabis industry by claiming that it's being run by "a bunch of young corporate banker types" who pretend to be interested in repairing the wrongs done by the War on Drugs, but they're really only interested in making "an easy buck for themselves." "Fuck those guys," says the video's narrator.
