Naming a dog is just as important as naming a child. If you give them some generic name like "Buddy," your friends will mock you for having no creativity. But then if you name it something weird or wacky, people will think you're also weird or wacky. It's basically a lose-lose.

Mental Floss contacted the largest veterinary practice in the United States to determine the most popular names for dogs in 2018. They looked at the names of over 2.5 million dogs to determine this list. So here were the top 10 names:

1. Charlie

2. Coco

3. Daisy

4. Bailey

5. Lola

6. Molly

7. Sadie

8. Toby

9. Sophie

10. Bear

In case you were wondering, there isn't any crossover between any of these names and the most popular baby names in America, EXCEPT for one. Sophia is currently the sixth most popular name for baby girls in the U.S. right now.

Also if you were wondering what the latest pop culture trend is for naming dogs, Mental Floss says it's Disney/Marvel movies. Dogs named Nakia, Okoye, and Shuri, characters from Black Panther, quadrupled in 2018, and dogs named Iron Man or Star Lord also increased by over 30 percent.

And in case you were curious, there was also a huge increase in dogs and cats named Cardi B this year as well.
