The 8 Most Overrated Marijuana Strains

There’s really no such thing as a bad strain of marijuana. But that doesn’t mean that all strains are created the same. There are definitely strains that are better or worse than others. And just because a strain is popular doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the best.

Here Are Eight of the Most Overrated Strains of Marijuana

8. Blueberry/Northern Lights

We’re putting these two together because they have a similar reason for making this list: mislabeling. Most of the strains of Blueberry or Northern Lights you encounter will not be true versions of the strain, but rather hybrids or offshoots that are similar but not exactly the same as the real thing. True Blueberry and Northern Lights are really good, but that doesn’t mean everything with that on its label will be as good.

7. Charlotte’s Web

You’ve probably read a lot about Charlotte’s Web and the many medical benefits this particular strain has. But then you’ve also probably gone to a dispensary only to not find it. That’s because Charlotte’s Web is a very rare strain grown by only one farm in Colorado. Don’t get hung up on Charlotte’s Web when there are many strains high in CBD worth checking out.

6. Acapulco Gold

Acapulco Gold was a popular strain for the Woodstock Generation, so it’s developed somewhat of a reputation as a legendary strain. And while it’s not a bad strain, it is known for producing powerful cerebral effects that can trigger people’s anxiety.

5. Pineapple Express

Pineapple Express is actually a perfectly good marijuana strain. But considering it shares its name with a Seth Rogen movie, people seem to think it’s the GOAT of marijuana strains. It’s a really good strain, but don’t avoid others just because you want Pineapple Express.

4. AK-47

AK-47 originally became popular mostly because it doesn’t take particularly long to grow indoors. While that’s a fine trait, it doesn’t have any particularly noteworthy characteristics that would make it a staple for a regular marijuana user.

3. Champagne Kush

You know how Miller High Life is called “the champagne of beers,” but it has absolutely no similarity to champagne in anyways? The same is true of Champagne Kush. Fancy name that implies it’s a luxury strain, when it’s really not much different than others on the market.

2. Sour Diesel

Technically, Sour Diesel isn’t so much overrated as divisive. Some people love its pungent smell and sharp taste, as well as its very powerful psychoactive effects. For others, particularly newbies, this is one of the worst strains. So if you’ve been hearing how great Sour Diesel is, just be warned, it may not be to your tastes.

1. Blue Dream

Blue Dream is possibly the most popular marijuana strain in America. But it’s most popular with new-ish or first-time users. Very few experienced cannabis vets will purchase Blue Dream when they hit up a dispensary. It’s not a bad strain, it’s just a popular one that doesn’t have a ton of appeal for experienced users.
