Photo of Miley Cyrus's Mother in Front of Tons of Marijuana Draws Social Media Backlash

A member of the Cyrus family is in hot water for posting a picture with marijuana, and surprisingly it has nothing to do with Miley.

Billy Ray Cyrus, father of Miley Cyrus, posted a picture on social media of his wife Tish standing in front of about a dozen large bags filled with marijuana. Tish claimed in a comment on Instagram that the marijuana in the photo did not belong to her and was not taken in their house.

However, this did not stop many people from criticizing the Cyrus family over the photo. Many people pointed out the hypocrisy where the Cyrus family can openly post a photo of themselves surrounded by large amounts of cannabis, and yet many minorities are thrown in jail for possessing much smaller quantities of the drug. They say this picture exemplifies an issue in the United States of authorities selectively choosing when to enforce marijuana laws.

Perhaps the backlash is a little harsh for an innocent Instagram photo, but it does help highlight the criminal justice arguments for why the United States should legalize marijuana.

While those rules are expected by June, a new report paints a rosy picture of the future of legal recreational cannabis in Michigan and the midwest.
