This Award-Winning Musician Lit A Joint Onstage For The First Time

For years, award-winning rocker Melissa Etheridge has been an outspoken advocate for legalization and medical marijuana, as well as developing her own cannabis business, Private Reserve Cannabis Infused Wine Tinctures. But while Etheridge has never been noted for shyness, she took her an unprecedented step in advertising her love of cannabis to the world this weekend at the High Times Cannabis Cup in Clio, Michigan.

While performing Saturday at the Auto City Speedway, Etheridge discussed how she used medical marijuana as part of her cancer treatments. She then pulled out a pre-rolled joint, according to reports from The Weed Blog, and discussed the benefits of a good sativa strain.

"This is my first time ever smoking while performing," Etheridge stated before lighting up, exhaling a huge plume of smoke, and launching into an improvised, high-energy setlist.

Despite the weed-friendliness of the venue, it was a gutsy first for a woman who's been performing onstage for decades. Watch the video below. It's great footage from the concert but doesn't actually show her lighting the joint. You should also listen to our Civilized conversation with Etheridge, which we recorded and published last fall.
