Born in Cambridge, England in 1948, Olivia was initially diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 44. As part of her treatment, she underwent a partial mastectomy, chemotherapy and breast reconstitution. Nearly 25 cancer-free years later, Olivia is battling cancer again in 2017. What she believed was a mere back pain is, in fact, a cancer relapse. She posted about her breast cancer diagnosis in a Facebook post in May 2017. Her cancer is now metastasized and has spread to the sacrum, a bone in the lower back. After discovering that her back pain was actually breast cancer, the singer was forced to postpone her USA and Canadian tour concerts.
The Australian Singer Uses Medical Cannabis
Olivia boldly announced that she is using medical cannabis to help her deal with the pain which comes alongside the aggressive cancer treatment. According to her, cannabis is "really important for pain and healing." In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, the Australian singer reveals that she is using a mix of radiation therapy and natural remedies to treat cancer. She chose her treatment therapies after consulting with physicians, natural therapist and the medical team at the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Center in Melbourne, Australia.
Olivia is All Praises for Medical Cannabis
A plant that has been maligned for so long has surprisingly many abilities to heal. Olivia told The Daily Telegraph Studies that cannabis can help ease symptoms from chemotherapy such as nausea and vomiting. She also praises California's steps to legalize cannabis for both medical and recreational use. She uses the drug legally in her state of California, but she wishes she could do same in Australia. Even though the Australian Federal Government made medical cannabis legal earlier this year, it is still difficult for patients to secure permission and obtain the product. The Grammy winner pledges that she will do whatever she can to encourage the use of cannabis in Australia, her hometown.

Olivia's daughter, Chloe Lattanzi has broken her silence over her mother's breast cancer. She reveals that her mother will be using CBD (Cannabidiol) hemp oil and other natural remedies to beat cancer. Chloe and her fiance James Driskill own a cannabis farm in Oregon thanks to Olivia's financial and moral support. The Australian singer herself confirmed that she loaned her daughter money so she could set up a cannabis farm in Oregon. Chloe has often spoken out in favor of the magical substance. Chloe argues that cannabis has scientifically proven properties to inhibit cancer cell growth. Medicinal cannabis expert in Santa Monica, Allan Frankel says that certain cannabinoids do indeed have an anti-cancer effect.
