5 Marijuana Strains That Are Only Popular Overseas

If you’re a marijuana lover in the United States, there’s probably a list of cannabis strains that you and your friends are very familiar with. But if you were going to go overseas, chances are you’d find a lot of people using strains you not only aren’t familiar with but possibly have never even heard of.

Here are five marijuana strains that are only popular outside of the United States:

1. Dr. Grinspoon

The actual Dr. Lester Grinspoon was actually a Harvard professor who advocated for medical marijuana in the United States, but the Dr. Grinspoon strain is really only popular in The Netherlands. It’s a pretty popular strain in Amsterdam’s coffee shops, but it hasn’t made quite as much of an impact in the states. Possibly because it takes a long time to harvest.

2. Lamb’s Bread

Lamb’s Bread, also called Lamb’s Breath, is famously one of Bob Marley’s favorite strains of marijuana. And while you may be able to find Lamb’s Bread in American dispensaries, many people claim that you can’t experience the true Lamb’s Bread anywhere but Jamaica.

3. Malawi Gold

Malawi Gold is a unique marijuana strain that can only be grown in the African country of, you guessed it, Malawi. Every year farmers harvest around 150,000 pounds of Malawi Gold, and most of it ends up in Europe. It’s known for being very potent, but its rarity makes it hard to find in the United States.

4. Neville’s Haze

Like Dr. Grinspoon, Neville’s Haze is a pretty popular marijuana strain in the Netherlands and other parts of Europe. However American dispensaries tend to prefer Kush or hybrid strains over Haze strains, so you’ll rarely find Neville’s Haze in North America.

5. Idukki Gold

Idukki Gold is a strain that’s almost exclusively grown in the Indian state of Kerala. However crackdowns by police in recent years have meant less exporting of the drug than in the past. However people who are still able to come by the strain overseas tend to love it.

The conversation surrounding cannabis edibles continues to be dominated by fears over overdosing. You’ll often hear horror stories about people eating too much and then having a terrible, sometimes nightmarish experience. And yet, edibles remain an extremely popular method of consuming cannabis.
