Marijuana Legalization Has the Best Ten Year Challenge Pic

If you've been on social media in the past week, you're probably away of the "Ten Year Challenge." Essentially, you take a picture of yourself 10 years ago and put it side-by-side with a picture of yourself today. And then you have the oh-so-funny people who will use fake photos on one side or the other, and you pretend it's hilarious even though you've seen thousands of people doing the same thing.

But while the Ten Year Challenge may be sort of stupid, it is a way to reflect on how much a person's changed in one decade. Or perhaps you could see how an entire country's changed as well.

Reddit user KingJod posted a picture on the social media site doing a Ten Year Challenge for marijuana legalization. Essentially, he took a map showing what the legal status of marijuana was in every state in 2008 and compared it to today. Here were the results:

marijuana 10 year challenge

That's quite a lot of progress in 10 years.

But perhaps when people start doing the 10 year challenge again in 2029, hopefully the second map will just be a solid green.

The cannabis industry has a packaging problem. In fact, more broadly speaking, it has a sustainability problem. Regulations in legal states, aiming to childproof cannabis products, have had the side effect of creating massive waste, while cultivation can be energy and water intensive.
