Many people are advocating for using cannabis and marijuana products to help treat medical conditions in animals. But one Maine restaurant is taking it to a very weird place.
Charlotte’s Legendary Lobster Pound is a seafood restaurant in Maine that recently announced a very weird new approach to cooking their lobsters. The restaurant will get the lobsters high off marijuana smoke prior to killing and cooking them, claiming it's a more humane method to do so.
“I feel bad that when lobsters come here there is no exit strategy,” Charlotte Gill, owner of the restaurant, said. “It’s a unique place and you get to do such unique things but at the expense of this little creature. I’ve really been trying to figure out how to make it better.”
The restaurant apparently began this experiment with a lobster called Roscoe. They put Roscoe into a box with marijuana smoke in it for three weeks. The staff claims that Roscoe was more calm and less aggressive, and didn't attack his fellow lobsters even when his claws were not bound.
Gill says she will put lobsters in a special box outside to dose with marijuana before killing them, but only if a customer requests that treatment. She also says that the THC from the marijuana will not affect the customers since the steaming process of preparing lobsters will destroy any traces of it.
Thank goodness those lobsters will have one minute of bliss before being dropped into a boiling pot of water. So much more humane!
