November 6 isn't just any other day for President Donald Trump. It's a life-or-death moment for the Trump administration, according to Steve Bannon, who thinks the president's tenure in the White House will be in jeopardy if the Republicans lose the midterm elections.
"November 6 is really Trump's first reelection," Bannon - Trump's former Chief Strategist - told Bill Maher on 'Real Time' yesterday. "If we lose the House, he's going to get impeached."
And if Trump survives that ordeal, Bannon thinks he could face stiff competition in the 2020 election from a dark-horse candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination: Michael Avenatti, who has risen from obscurity to one of the most tenacious critics of the Trump administration over the last year as the legal counsel for porn star Stormy Daniels.
"If Bernie Sanders had had an ounce of Avenatti's fearlessness, he would have been the Democratic nominee and we would have had a much tougher time beating him," Bannon said. "Avenatti's...got a fearlessness and he's a fighter. I think he'll go through a lot of the field [of presidential candidates] like a scythe through grass."
Bannon and Maher also sparred over Trump's intelligence, the sustainability of the economy's current growth and why Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election. Check out the full debate in the clip below.
