In the United States today, a small number of corporations are responsible for just about everything, including giving people jobs. But who are the ones with the most power?
The website Visual Capitalist presents a lot of charts and graphs that document the realities about the American economy today. Recently, they created a map showing the largest employer in each state. Take a look at the results:
As you can see, Walmart is the big one on the list. It's the number one employer in 22 of the 50 states. That's not surprising, considering Walmart is the largest employer in the United States with 2.2 million workers. The second place corporation only has 500,000.
If you look at the rest, most of the largest employers are either universities or health care centers. Although there are a few outliers. MGM Resorts is the largest employer in Nevada, which is not surprising considering how popular Las Vegas is. Boeing is the largest employer in Washington, which is where they make a lot of their airplanes. And in New Jersey and Maine there are food corporations that are the largest employer.
So now you know why the entire family that founded Walmart is basically in the top 10 richest people in the world list.
