Kevin Smith Credits Weed For Keeping His Spirits High After Life-Threatening Heart Attack

Stoner comedy director Kevin Smith was at death's door just two months ago, but he was surprisingly upbeat last week while discussing the 100 percent artery blockage that nearly claimed his life. Although admittedly terrified by the experience, he explained that weed has kept his spirits high after the ordeal.

"I'll be honest with you kids, I'm a wake-and-baker," he told Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin of the 'Today' show. "I'm feeling fantastic. I've been up since 5 AM and I'm ready to embrace the day."

He also explained how he's dropped 32 pounds since then (and plans to drop another 43) thanks to a special diet. Check it out in the clip above.

Citing supply shortages, Ontario announced Thursday that they would now be taking a “phased approach” to issuing cannabis retail licenses. Despite earlier claims that they would not be capping the number of licenses for retail pot shops, they announced Thursday that they would, in fact, be limiting the number of licenses dispensed in April to 25. The province says that the licenses will be issued though a lottery system overseen by a third party to “ensure equality and transparency.” This, of course, is following the Progressive Conservative’s stark change in cannabis policy for the province after defeating the Ontario Liberal government in 2018.
