Jeff Sessions is the current Attorney General of the United States and former Senator of Alabama. While serving as Attorney General, Sessions has been very vocal in expressing his opposition to the legalization of marijuana at both the state and federal level. Sessions has shared these views as far back as 1986 when he joked that the Ku Klux Klan “was O.K. until I found out they smoked pot.” Sessions apologized for his remark, but it cost him his nomination for federal district judge of Alabama. During his confirmation hearing as Attorney Genereal, Sessions addressed these remarks again, denying that he sympathized with the group while keeping his stance on cannabis legalization the same.

Since becoming the Attorney General, Sessions has become even more vocal in his fight against cannabis. Sessions even expressed these views during his confirmation hearing, “...this drug is dangerous, you cannot play with it, it is not funny, it’s not something to laugh about… and to send that message with clarity that good people don’t smoke marijuana.” This angered many cannabis consumers and advocates because Sessions oftentimes spreads false information without supporting his claims with any science, “Marijuana is a cure for opiate abuse? Give me a break!... Maybe science will prove I'm wrong.” Well Sessions, science is proving you wrong.
