The One Glaring Omission From Seth Rogen's Smoking Circle

Given his roles in "Pineapple Express" (2008) and "This Is the End" (2013), you might be surprised to learn that James Franco - who turned 38 today - does not actually smoke marijuana himself. Repeat: James Franco does not smoke marijuana.

This guy.

He used to partake in pot, but he told Howard Stern in December 2014 that he doesn't anymore.

"I just haven't done it in a long time," Franco said. "There's just no need." He added that he "couldn't function" at work if he did smoke, and he claimed that he was only acting high in movies like "Pineapple Express."

If that's true, he might be one of the best actors of his generation.

But he doesn't mind costars like friend and frequent collaborator Seth Rogen being high - even on set.

'I don't think it's any different than somebody having a glass of wine or something at lunch for Seth,' says Franco. 'But other people can't handle it.'

For Rogen, Franco's the cannabis equivalent of the one that got away.

"This is really depressing for me to say," Rogen said on a 2014 episode of Watch What Happens Live. "I've never smoked weed with James Franco because he doesn't smoke weed. That's why he's such a good actor!"

Check out Franco and Rogen and reprising their best stoner roles in the faux trailer for Pineapple Express 2.

By now you may have heard about the cannabis plant's most well-known compounds, THC and CBD, however, there's more to marijuana than just its cannabinoids. Terpenes are aromatic compounds that give plants their flavor and aroma. Found in cannabis and other plants, terpenes have their own therapeutic effects, such as anti-inflammatory, anxiolytic, and anti-depressive properties.
