Celebrate James Brown's Legacy At 'The Godfather Of Soul' Museum Exhibit

James Brown fans can celebrate the late soul singer's 84th birthday today by visiting the museum exhibit dedicated to his life and legacy. The Augusta Museum of History in Augusta, Georgia - where Brown grew up in the 1930s and 40s - is now home to The Godfather of Soul Exhibit, which features priceless artifacts from his career.

The collection is broken down into three sections - The Man, The Musician and The Legacy. The first offers candid glimpses into Brown's life through pictures of him with his family, records of his philanthropic work and an eye-popping assortment of grooming gear taken from the personal hair salon that Brown had set up in his home.

The section devoted to his music is a mecca for soul fans. All of Brown's instruments are on display alongside original pressings of his records, awards for his work and outfits worn onstage during his career. For film buffs, the exhibit features the chair that Brown sat in on set while filming 'The Blues Brothers' (1978) with John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd. As you'd probably expect, the folding canvas chair has 'GODFATHER' written on the back instead of Brown's name.

The legacy section broadens its focus by looking at the lasting impression that Brown left on popular music by inspiring mega-stars like Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake. But really you could add almost the entirety of hip hop to the legacy section since Brown is one of the most sampled artists of all time. Artists ranging from The Beastie Boys to LL Cool JEminem, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar and more have all sampled Brown's funky beats.

So get on up to Georgia and check out the exhibit. And if you can't get there yourself, check out this virtual tour courtesy of the Godfather's daughter - Deanna Brown-Thomas.

Derived from the part of the cannabis plant that doesn't get you “high” like THC, cannabidiol (CBD) is typically used for health reasons instead of for recreational purposes, and has been found to be especially useful for treating symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. A challenging neurodegenerative disorder, Parkinson’s causes a combination of motor and non-motor symptoms — such as tremors, weakness, stiffness, dizziness, anxiety and sleeplessness — that affect daily life. CBD, typically taken in oil form, has the potential to relieve these symptoms, improving sleep, reducing inflammation and more, which can profoundly help the more than 10 million people across the world suffering.
