Instagram Launches Mental Health Awareness Campaign

Since 1949, May has been deemed Mental Health Month to spread awareness on the issue. Now, Instagram is also helping to spread awareness with the launch of their new campaign, #HereForYou. The hashtag calls on Instagram users to share their photos and stories about their mental health issues. Instagram kicked off their campaign by telling the stories of three people living with mental health conditions that use Instagram as a way to cope. Elyse Fox, one of these featured advocates, created the Instagram account, Sad Girls Club, to share her own mental health journey, hoping this new initiative will continue the conversation and make some feel like they’re not alone in this.

Citing supply shortages, Ontario announced Thursday that they would now be taking a “phased approach” to issuing cannabis retail licenses. Despite earlier claims that they would not be capping the number of licenses for retail pot shops, they announced Thursday that they would, in fact, be limiting the number of licenses dispensed in April to 25. The province says that the licenses will be issued though a lottery system overseen by a third party to “ensure equality and transparency.” This, of course, is following the Progressive Conservative’s stark change in cannabis policy for the province after defeating the Ontario Liberal government in 2018.
