'I Love Weed': Shawn Mendes Comes Out Of The Cannabis Closet

Shawn Mendes doesn’t want to broadcast his fondness for marijuana—but we will.

In a recent interview for a Rolling Stone cover story, the Canada-born pop sensation divulged that he was a regular cannabis consumer — albeit a low-key one.

“I love weed,” he said. “I wouldn’t tweet that—not yet, at least—but it’s really good for me. When I’m home, I’ll smoke and then play guitar for seven hours.”

While, really, there’s nothing holdin’ him back from going on the record about this newfound love of the plant, we can kind of understand that it doesn’t quite gel with the squeaky-clean image the 20-year-old star currently has in the media.

Still, what interests us most about this statement is the part where he says “not yet.” So…are we to assume that Mendes will be dropping some sultry radio hits about weed sometime down the line? Because we could rock with that.

Latest.

Before enlisting in the military, this veteran saw cannabis as just another recreational activity to do with friends. But after his service it became a tool for massive healing both physical and emotional ailments. From battle scars to anxiety, and other traumas, cannabis is a versatile medicine that is known to be a life saver specifically for veterans — many of whom suffer from PTSD, the symptoms of which (like nightmares and insomnia) can be treated with cannabis.
