Ever found yourself breathing in the foreign aromas of a strange land and longing for something a little more familiar – but unwilling or unable to sap your savings for a ticket back home?
Homesick Candles has got you covered.
The company’s destination-scented candles are themed by state, each featuring heavily researched smells recognizable to natives of that area.
The Wisconsin candle, for example, has hints of cranberry, Danish kringle and “winter air”, while the Pennsylvania candle features notes of chocolate and molasses. The Florida candle smells like, you guessed it, oranges (and apparently driftwood?)
“We looked for, and continue to look for, scents of plants, foods, environments, and even clothing that are relatable and universally enjoyable,” Nate Schmiedehaus, cofounder of Homesick Candles, told Vogue.
“We sift through dozens, and sometimes hundreds, of recommendations to create sample candles with different combinations and proportions of the scents and test them with the state natives until we have something that’s perfect.”
If you’re planning a trip far, far away in the near future – or you’re already in a distant land and need a little reminder that home is only a sniff away – search for your state here.
