Here's Why CBD Works Better With a Little Bit of THC

This article is brought to you by Eve Farms.

CBD is all the rage these days, but in fact, the non-intoxicating cannabinoid — reportedly useful in quelling seizures, anxiety, insomnia, inflammation, pain, and other ailments — works better when it's in the presence of THC, the cannabis plant's primary, psychoactive compound. That's thanks to the entourage effect: the symbiotic relationship among all the compounds in cannabis, causing each of them to work better when they're in the presence of the others. According to Dr. Ethan Russo, who wrote the research paper Taming THC, a 1:1 ratio of CBD:THC is more effective for pain management.

"We have so much more to learn, but there is strong evidence to show that having the presence of other cannabinoids and terpenes naturally occurring in the cannabis plant is more medically beneficial than THC or CBD alone. This is what is meant by full-spectrum or the entourage effect." says Nolan Formway, Director of Product at Eve Farms.

CBD can be derived either from hemp, which contains less than .3 percent THC, or from cannabis, which is rich in the psychoactive compound, as well as in terpenes. While hemp-derived CBD is legal in all 50 states and not subject to the same stringent regulations that apply to cannabis products, it lacks the benefits present in "full-spectrum" CBD products derived from cannabis. Moreover, while cannabis plants contain around 18 to 20 percent CBD, hemp plants contain only 3 to 5 percent — so it's more efficient to produce CBD oil from a cannabis plant, since doing so requires a smaller amount of plant matter for what's still a larger amount of CBD.

Additionally, full spectrum CBD products are more medically beneficial than pure CBD isolate, which is mistakenly thought to be more effective.

Eve Farms' proprietary strain, EVE, contains a rare 26:1 ratio of CBD to THC. This ratio is perfect for those who don't want an intoxicating effect, but are seeking the medicinal benefits of cannabis. For those looking for a more elevated CBD experience, Eve Farms offers a 1:1 ratio of CBD to THC. They bred their proprietary strain with other higher THC strains like Papaya, Forbidden Fruit, and Gorilla Glue. "We have received a lot of positive feedback on the effects of EVE and the different crosses, which range from anxiety and pain relief, to calming and uplifting." says Formway. "Everyone is a little bit different, but personally I get a little headrush and can feel my mood and creativity improve. We recommend starting small and increasing your dosage over time with our 1:1s and higher THC strains if you’re newer to cannabis."

With a primary focus on therapeutic products, Eve Farms offers premium cannabis with people in mind at the heart of it all. Devoid of harsh chemical pesticides, Eve Farm's flowers and products allow people to enjoy the purest cannabis. All products are rigorously lab tested for pesticides, potency, and microbiological contamination ensuring quality and purity for everyone.

It’s no secret that my husband and I are longtime cannabis and hemp advocates. We’ve cheered as the majority of Americans have come around to supporting legalization, and applauded as cannabis law reform spreads from state to state. Still, decades of prohibitionist propaganda have left many in the dark about the powerful wellness potential of these long-demonized plants.
