The Prince Of Darkness Has A Sweet Side

On Dec. 3, 1948, John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne rocked his way into the world. He made his mark on the world of cannabis 23 years later when Black Sabbath released "Sweet Leaf," an ode to marijuana. The title -taken from a cigarette slogan - soon became common slang for marijuana.

In the lyrics, the Godfather of Metal shows his softer side by expressing his unconditional love...of cannabis. The Ozzman also criticizes prohibition and predicts that cannabis will one day be accepted worldwide:

Straight people don't know, what you're about.
They put you down and shut you out.
You gave to me a new belief
and soon the world will love you sweet leaf.

Here's the full tune. By the way, that bizarre sound at the beginning of the recording is allegedly Sabbath guitarist Tommy Iommi coughing after a puff.

President Trump's 2020 budget request includes a loophole that would let Washington, DC finally open up dispensaries for recreational cannabis. Although DC voters passed a ballot initiative to legalize recreational cannabis back in 2014, Congress has used its power over the nation's capital to prevent it from selling cannabis for recreational use. Right now, local dispensaries can only sell medical marijuana to registered patients thanks to Congress, which controls spending in the District of Columbia.
