At this year's 29th Annual World Cheese Awards, 266 judges from 26 different countries came together to sort through more than 3,000 different cheeses and find the world's greatest.
The honor went to Tingvollost, a family-run dairy from Norway, and their Kraftkar blue cheese.
Judge Nick Trioros of Olympic Cheese in Canada, described Kraftkar thusly:
“The mould in this cheese is developed really nicely. It’s very evenly distributed. On top of that, the texture is great: when it crumbles you get a soft creaminess. And on the finish, it coats your tongue with a real soft landing.”
Yum. But don't toss out your cheddar just yet: As Tasting Table points out, Tingvollost doesn't ship to the United States. But with this major victory in their pocket, maybe Kraftkar will soon be found on a cracker near you.
