Fisherman Catches Two Pounds of Marijuana While Out at Sea

Fishermen love to brag about rare or unusual catches they make in their sea travels. But one Florida fisherman's going to have a find that's hard to beat.

Jorge Bustamante went fishing off Pompano Beach in Florida when he snagged something unusual on the end of his line. He pulled out a tightly wrapped package of some sort of green plant from the ocean. Bustamante had a suspicion of what the package might be, and immediately contacted the Coast Guard who arrived and confirmed what Bustamante had caught: a one pound package of marijuana.

While that may sound unusual, it's actually not too weird for anglers to find these things. In fact, South Floridians call such catches "Square grouper."

Bustamante estimates that the marijuana was around one kilogram, which is about two pounds. Unfortunately, he had to give the cannabis to the Coast Guard. But then again, you probably don't want to smoke some weed that's been chilling in the ocean for who knows how long.

Try beating that fishing story.

Latest.

The city of Lawrence, Kansas, is looking to make it so that a marijuana possession fine costs less than a cup of coffee for first and second time offenders. The proposed $1 possession fine would replace their current $200 penalty, as well as a $63 court fee. Those charged under the current regulations also have to undergo a court evaluation, which comes with additional costs.
