Hot off the release of his controversial Vietnam documentary, acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns has announced his most ambitious project yet: telling the history of a war that hasn't even started yet. The war that will pit machines with (inexplicable) Austrian accents against The Resistance — a ragtag group of human survivors led by Edward Furlong, Nick Stahl, Christian Bale or whoever's playing John Connor onscreen these days.

Burns says he's actually been working on the definitive 'Terminator' documentary ever since The Resistance tabbed him to go back in time and tell their story.

"It wasn't until 2029, when the humans made a decisive victory, and knew that the only way to prevent further casualties would be to send someone to the past to create a documentary and accurately portray their struggle, to tell their story, to warn them about SkyNet," Burns said in the faux trailer made by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

"Watch my documentary if you want to live," he added, riffing on the franchise's second most enduring catchphrase after "I'll be back."
