Is Cannabis Prohibition Coming To An End?

Federal cannabis prohibition might finally come to an end and we have U.S. Senator Ron Wyden and House Rep. Jared Polis to thank. The two introduced legislation that will allow states to choose whether they want to legalize. The hope is to regulate and tax cannabis similar to alcohol. The bill would also include a federal excise tax to be placed on cannabis products. Then, on a more criminal justice level, the bills would also eliminate the many punishments associated with federal cannabis convictions. When discussing the bill, House Rep. Earl Blumenauer said, “... too many people are trapped between federal and state laws… It’s not right, and it’s not fair. We need change now—and this bill is the way to do it.”
