Cannabis Lounges Could Open in Las Vegas Next Year

Sin City will be home to social cannabis consumption sites, if Tick Segerblom (D) gets his way. The former state senator has long been at the forefront of the cannabis legalization movement in Nevada. His latest gamble is legalizing cannabis lounges on the Vegas Strip.

"I want to be involved in drafting the ordinance," Segerblom told Leafly. "The goal is to get these pot lounges up and running, get marijuana out of our casinos and hotels, and get it off the streets."

Last week, Segerblom and a group of six other legislators took a trip to San Fransisco to see how the city has dealt with cannabis lounges there. While technically not legal in the state of California, San Fransisco has largely left cannabis lounges alone and Segerblom hopes to use their system as a template for what might happen in Vegas as early as 2019.

However, Segerblom will still have to go through state authorities before he gets the ok to launch these venues on the Strip. If successful, Nevada would be the first legal state to license cannabis lounges.
