Cannabis Consumers Prefer Sweet Over Salty Munchies

Sweet or salty? Chips or candy? The longstanding debate over which is the best munchie has finally been settled -with science.

According to the 2018 Civilized cannabis culture poll, the answer is pretty clear. While pretzels are good, chocolate is better.

Cannabis consumers were asked what kinds of food they craved the most while using cannabis. Almost half of the American respondents (48 per cent) said that they preferred sweet foods. Canadian consumers weren’t far behind, with 42 per cent saying that they also preferred sugary snacks.

Of course, this doesn’t mean that nobody’s picking up the bag of popcorn when they have the munchies. 38 per cent of Americans and 39 per cent of Canadians also crave salty snacks when they’re high.

And people are making some pretty creative concoctions, too. According to a 2017 AskReddit post, one person’s best creation was a homemade pizza topped with barbecue sauce, chips, and cheese.

Another opted for a stack of Eggo waffles with whipped cream and strawberry jam between each waffle.

One thing is for sure, though: people definitely aren’t looking to snack on something healthy.

Although quite a few North Americans said they could get down with something thirst-quenching (it was the third most popular answer overall), the consensus seems to be that junk food is where it’s at.

Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) isn't the most vocal cannabis advocate on the 2020 presidential campaign trail, but you shouldn't take that as a lack of support for marijuana legalization. Unlike many of the top contenders for the upcoming Democratic primaries, Ryan hasn't filed any of his own cannabis legalization bills.
