Stoners are often included in horror movies, usually as one of the early victims of whatever serial killer is terrorizing the teenagers in the movie. But there are some movies that combine elements of horror movies with elements of stoner movies, giving you the best of both worlds.
Here are the best stoner horror movies:
1. Cabin in the Woods
Cabin in the Woods is a great meta-horror movie that plays around with a lot of normal horror movie conventions. And Marty, the stoner in the group of teens that go to the cabin in the woods, is the only one who figures out the secrets behind their horrifying experience. It’s the rare horror movie where the stoner actually survives…well, almost.
2. Idle Hands
Idle Hands is another rare horror movie where the stoner is actually the killer. Although, the stoner does so unwillingly as his hand becomes possessed and begins killing people. And it’s actually a decent horror-comedy movie.
3. Friday the 13th (2009 remake)
Most of the Friday the 13th movies involve pot-smoking teens getting killed by Jason Voorhees. But the 2009 remake Friday the 13th makes Jason even scarier as he runs around and is more physically imposing than ever. The remake also includes scenes where teens are in the woods looking for a hidden marijuana field, and there are multiple great stoner characters in this movie as well.
4. The Tripper
Here’s the premise for The Tripper: A group of stoners are going to a modern-day Woodstock music festival, but they end up being stalked by an anti-marijuana serial killer who dresses and talks like Ronald Reagan. It’s also a funny homage to Wes Craven and Tobe Hooper movies, and was directed by David Arquette, who played Dewey in the Scream movies.
5. Hansel & Gretel Get Baked
Hansel & Gretel Get Baked is a strange movie with a cult following. As the title suggests, it’s a retelling of the classic fairy tale but Hansel and Gretel are stoners and it’s been turned into a comedy-horror movie. If you like silly horror movies, this is for you.
6. Class of Nuke ‘Em High
If you’ve never seen a Troma movie, then Class of Nuke ‘Em High may not be for you. They’re basically horror B-movies with tons of gore, nudity, sex and violence. But a major plot point in this movie involves a radioactive marijuana plant that will turn people into mutants if they smoke it, which is basically what Jeff Sessions thinks will happen if you smoke regular marijuana.
