Fans who can't get enough of 'The Dude' are in for a treat - sort of. Film fansite Birth.Movies.Death. reported last week that John Turturro is preparing to reprise his role as foulmouthed bowler Jesus Quintana in a Big Lebowski spinoff called "Going Places."
The script - written by Turturro - is also a quasi-remake of the French comedy Les Valseuses (1974), which stars Gérard Depardieu as an amoral drifter who crashes around France in stolen cars while harassing women. The title is allegedly French slang for testicles, so it might actually be an inspired choice for a spinoff featuring a lewd character whose catchphrase is "Nobody fucks with the Jesus."
Turturro won't likely have trouble improving upon the source material based on the French film's reception in America. Roger Ebert said "Les Valseuses" was "the most misogynistic movie I can remember" and that he left the theatre "feeling that I’d spent two hours in the company of a filmmaker I would never want to meet."
The movie - which is already being filmed - also features Bobby Cannavale and Susan Sarandon. Unfortunately, Jeff Bridges doesn't appear to be attached to the project. And Birth.Movies.Death says that the Coen brothers aren't involved in the sequel to their stoner comedy classic.
But you can always enjoy The Dude's verbal sparring with The Jesus by re-watching this clip.
